Michaela Coel starts filming Been So Long

Chewing Gun star Michaela Coel has started shooting a new modern-day musical for Film Four.

Filming has just started on Been So Long, set on the streets of Camden, North London, and featuring a soundtrack of RnB, nu-soul, UK dance and cinematic orchestration.

The film is based on the 2009 stage musical by Ché Walker and Arthur Darvill that premiered at The Young Vic and is directed by Tinge Krishnan, who previously made Junkhearts in 2011.

Coel leads the cast as Simone – a young, spirited, single-minded mum with the soul of a poet. Ronke Adekoluejo, who played Amy on one episode of Chewing Gum also co-stars alongside alongside Arinzé Kene and George Mackay.

Krishnan said: ‘So much creativity has come from the rehearsal process and we are energised to have the cameras rolling.’
