And more silverware for Phoebe Waller-Bridge

People Just Do Nothing and Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge both scooped two gongs at tonight's Royal Television Society Awards.

The exploits of the geezers behind West London's pirate radio station Kurupt FM won the scripted comedy category while Asim Chaudhry, who plays Chabuddy G won best comedy performance.

Afterwards, he stayed in character to joke: 'I'm not really in it for the awards. It's a documentary, they're filming me.'

And looking at his award he said: 'They got the name wrong. I don't know who this geezer is, Asim Chaudhry… so if you guys could maybe Tipp-Ex that out and get it replaced.

'I'm not really into this whole industry shit, but this is good quality stuff, I could probably sell this on the market. I come here wearing a black tie and you give me this, so thank you, but obviously I'm the people's champion, I can't wait back to get back to Hounslow and do my hustling. That's where my heart is. Thank you to the RTS - the Royal Tandoori Society.'

Waller-Bridge won both the breakthrough category and the award for comedy writing for her acclaimed debut.

The accolade comes just 24 hours after Fleabag was named best TV comedy at the Chortle Awards.

Speaking after collecting her prize tonight, she said: 'The BBC gave us so much freedom and so much encouragement to do what we wanted to do on BBC Three, which is what is so great about it because you've got licence to fuck up there…'

The victories helped BBC Three to be named channel of the year.

Earlier, The Last Leg, fronted by Alex Brooker, Josh Widdicombe and Adam Hills, won the best entertainment performance category.

The results were announced at a ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, hosted by Sandi Toksvig, who stepped in when original presenter Piers Morgan was forced to step down amid a storm of protest.

Other winners included Robbie Coltrane, who won best actor for playing a comedian at the eye of a historic sex abuse storm in National Treasure, which also won the mini-series award; and Ant & Dec, who picked up best entertainment show for Saturday Night Takeaway.

Julie Walters won the lifetime achievement award, saying: 'I simply can't thank all the amazing people I have elbowed out of the way to get where I am'
