Big Bang Theory renewed for two more years
The Big Bang Theory has been renewed for two more years.
Stars Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayya have all signed up to the show into its 12th season.
They had been earning a reported $1million per episode but offered to take a pay cut so newer cast members Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch could get a rise from their $200,000.
The latter two have not yet signed up for the next two seasons, with their deal still being negotiated, according to sources.
Question marks over the sitcom’s future had also been raised with news that a prequel, Young Sheldon, was in the works, concentrating on the young life of the central character.
The spin-off has been created by Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro, the executive producers of the original show, and will star Iain Armitage as the geek at the age of nine. Jim Parsons, who plays adult Sheldon, will narrate, with the first episode being helmed by Iron Man director Jon Favreau.
A spokesman for the CBS network, which airs Big Bang Theory in the States, said: ‘Congrats to the cast and crew of The Big Bang Theory, which premiered almost a decade ago in September 2007 and has been TV’s No. 1 comedy for the past five years in a row.’
