In the footsteps of Morecambe and Wise

New documentary features unseen images

ITV3 is to air a new documentary about Morecambe & Wise, featuring some offscreen images from their movies that have not been seen by the public before.

The two-part Morecambe & Wise Forever, which will air over Easter, follows similar celebrations of Les Dawson, Rising Damp and the Carry On movies.

It will be narrated by Martin Clunes and feature interviews with Eric’s wife Joan and children Gary, Stephen and daughter Gail.

For the first time, Gary and Gail will go back to the house in Morecambe where Eric was born, while other contributors include Sir Michael Grade, Anita Harris, Hannah Gordon and  Millicent Martin.

The first part covers the early years of the double act – including an interview with Mary Naylor, the former child performer, who was there on the day that Eric and Ernie performed in public for the first time – while the second part covers their work on the small screen.

Mark Robinson, the executive producer for film-makers Shiver, said: ‘here have been many documentaries about Eric and Ernie before, but the fantastic thing about the Forever brand is that for the first time it gives us the unique opportunity to mix biography with travel – visiting the locations which made Morecambe & Wise the much-loved duo we came to know and love.

‘We were also delighted to stumble upon never before seen photos of their career in the movies – it was a real pleasure to reveal these behind-the-scenes images, for the first time, to some of the people closest to Eric and Ernie.’

The Morecambe & Wise movie That Riviera Touch will also air over the Easter weekend on ITV3.
