Alec Baldwin plans book as Trump

You Can't Spell America Without Me

Alec Baldwin is writing a comedy book in the guise of Donald Trump.

The 30 Rock actor, whose impersonations of The Donald on Saturday Night Live have riled the President has teamed up with novelist Kurt Andersen – a former editor of the satirical Spy magazine for the project.

Their book, You Can't Spell America Without Me, is subtitled ‘The Really Tremendous Inside Story of My Fantastic First Year as President Donald J. Trump.

Trump BookAndersen told the New York Times: ‘I think we’ll be channeling and amplifying the real Trump, Writing for a five- or 10-minute sketch is different than writing a book, which has to be a narrative.’

You Can't Spell America Without Me is scheduled for publication in November, around a year after Trump was elected, with  Baldwin reading the audiobook version.

But he told the New York Times: ‘I think it’s fair to say that Kurt will do most of the writing. We have that arrangement whereby he doesn’t put on the wig, I don’t open up a Word document.’

Last month Dominican Republic newspaper El Nacional  had to apologise – after running a photo of Baldwin alongside a story about Donald Trump in the belief it was the real thing.

And the President has made no secret of his hatred of the portrayal, tweeting in December:  'Just tried watching Saturday Night Live - unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny and the Baldwin impersonation just can't get any worse. Sad.’
