A Brexit gag has won this year’s competition to find the best topical Christmas cracker joke.

The winning gag won 20 per cent of the vote in the competition run by TV channel Gold.

The Top 20 are:

The author of the winning joke was Laura McDonnell, an NHS project support worker from Scotland – who is following in the footsteps of her grandfather, Ron, who wrote gags for the likes of Morecambe and Wise and Des O’Connor.

The 27-year-old received a £1,500 prize and a box of crackers, one of which will contain her own joke.
