Caroline Aherne left no will

So £500,000 estate goes to her mum

Caroline Aherne died without making a will, it has been revealed today.

Despite her long-running heath problems, including the cancer that claimed her life at the age of 52 in July, she made no provisions for her inheritance.

As she had no children and was not married at the time of her death, her  £504,060 estate goes to her mother Mary under government intestacy rules.

Aherne was married to New Order bassist Peter Hook – who also fronted the house band on the Mrs Merton Show – for three years from 1994 to 1997.

Earlier this year he alleged she was an abusive wife – claims that the family of the Royle Family creator described as ‘disgusting’.

Aherne told loved ones that she was dying in May this year, but her condition worsened and she passed away at her bungalow in Timperley, Cheshire, on July 2.
