'Dark social commentary' for Comedy Central

Jim Jefferies is making a new series for America’s Comedy Central.

The format is loosely based on the ‘anchor-behind-a-desk’ format of programmes like the Daily Show.

But Chortle understands that the outspoken comic has been given full artistic control to make whatever he wants, with the result likely to be a no-holds-barred show.

The Australian comic, who learned his craft in the UK, previously starred in the FX show Legit, which ran for two seasons in 2013 and 2014.

And he is also known for his blunt-talking stand-up, especially a routine about gun control which has gone viral, with more than 4million views on YouTube alone.

An initial episode of what is provisionally being called The Jim Jefferies Show is being taped in Los Angeles next Wednesday, promising ‘sharp social commentary’.

Blurb for the audience tickets says: ‘Let Jim tell you everything you need to know about hilarious, fun-for-the-whole-family topics like gun violence, slavery, pornography, and much more. Plus, some stuff about Donald Trump, because unfortunately there's no way he can avoid talking about that.’

Producers add: ‘These are dark times in America. Jim Jefferies is here to make it a little bit darker.’
