Gold tears up its schedules for Fawlty special

The Gold TV channel has torn up its weekend schedules to pay tribute to Andrew Sachs – as BBC One also reruns a Fawlty Towers classic tonight.

Digital broadcaster Gold will run a five-hour Fawlty Towers marathon on Sunday evening, featuring some of Manuel’s finest moments.

Four original episodes will be screened, along with the two-hour 2009 documentary Fawlty Towers: Re-Opened, which reunited the entire cast for the first time, including co-writer Connie Booth who had dropped out of the limelight.

The tribute starts at 6pm with a screening of The Wedding Party episode, in which Manuel returns to the hotel drunk after celebrating his birthday.

That’s followed by Communication Problems at 6.45pm, featuring the famous ‘I know nothing’ scene in which the waiter conceals Basil placing an illicit bet on a horse, and Basil The Rat at 7.30pm –the last ever episode in which Manuel’s pet rodent must be concealed from a health inspector.

Fawlty Towers Re-Opened airs at 8.15pm, followed by the penultimate episode of the sitcom,  Anniversary.

The Communication Problems episode is also the one chosen by BBC One to be its tribute to Sachs, which it will air tonight at 7:30pm.

Gold dropped a ‘box set’ screening of its own sitcom Marley’s Ghosts to make way for its Sunday night tribute, as well as an Only Fools And Horses rerun.
