Stewart Lee to host jazz radio show

A tight 5: October 24

Stewart Lee is to become a presenter on a new BBC 'pop-up' radio station dedicated to jazz. The comic will front a one-off selection of his favourite tunes from the genre, which he has loved since 1983, on BBC Jazz, which will run online and on digital from November 10 to 14 to coincide with the London Jazz Festival. Lee's show will be on at midday on November 11.

NORMAN LOVETT has been awarded the Stand Up for Labour act of the year title for his performances at party fundraisers, as voted by the constituency groups which host the gigs. Promoter Crispin Flintoff said: 'I'm pleased that his hard work has been recognised by audiences. Sometimes I have driven him hundreds of miles to and from gigs and he has got home at 3am. He's great company throughout and never nods off. He has more stamina and laughs per hour than comics half his age.'

I, DANIEL BLAKE – starring comedian Dave Johns as an out-of-work carpenter – has recorded the best-ever opening weekend of any Ken Loach film yet. The acclaimed drama netted £443,197 from its 94 screens since opening on Friday. Read our interview with Johns here.

MICHAEL CRAWFORD finally picked up the Visual Comedy Legend from Bristol's Slapstick Comedy Festival last night. After picking up the award, a rendition of animated character Morph in Frank Spencer raincoat and glasses, he thanked Michele Dotrice, his co-star on Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em, saying: 'Without you, it would never have been possible.' The event had originally been scheduled for April but was cancelled at the last minute because of 'unforeseen events'. Previous winners include Eric Sykes and Michael Palin.
