Abandoned C4 comedy picked up by Fox

A spoof melodramatic soap created by Peep Show writers Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong is set to have a new lease of life in the States.

Channel 4 aired a pilot of Bad Sugar – about the glamorous and scheming heirs of a wealthy mining mogul fighting over his legacy – in 2012 and subsequently commissioned a full series.

But the show was dropped because of problems securing the starry cast, including Olivia Colman, Julia Davis, Sharon Horgan, Peter Serafinowicz and Reece Shearsmith.

Now the Fox network has commissioned a new script from former Frasier writer Patty Breen.

Horgan will be one of the producers of the new project, through her Merman production company. Breen is a consulting producer on Horgan's HBO series Divorce and an executive on the pilot American remake of her BBC Three series Dead Boss.

Hollywood website Deadline reports that Bain, Armstrong, Colman and Davis are also likely to have production credits on the remake.
