Arm Wrestling with Chas And Dave becomes a reality

(Very loosely)

The BBC has made Alan Partridge’s idea of Arm Wrestling with Chas And Dave a reality – almost.

The programme was one of the desperate pitches the inept talk show host made to commissioner Tony Hayers as his world fell apart.

Now Radio 4 Extra is putting the idea to the test, by asking Chas Hodges from the Cockney musical duo who he thinks he could beat in an arm wrestle.

Hodges reckons he could take Noel Edmonds in a one-on-one-match, while both of them could defeat Simon And Garfunkel.

The clip will air as comic and presenter Paul Garner – who is Hodges’ son-in-law – hosts The Comedy Club on Monday from 10pm.

Before putting the names to Hodges, Garner said: ‘It was pitched on I’m Alan Partridge. The show never got made, which is a travesty.’

Last year, booking website Hostelworld made another one of Partridge’s ideas  – Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank –  into a reality for an online advertising campaign. Eubank said: ‘Up until recently, I had absolutely no idea why people used to mention hostels to me and smile. It was truly an unsolved mystery to me.’
