'Lollies' accolade for The Parent Agency

David Baddiel has won a prize for his children's writing.

The comic's book, The Parent Agency, won the Lollie prize for the 'best laugh out loud book for 9-13 year olds' last night.

Schoolchildren picked the winners from shortlists chosen by a team of judges, led by former Children's Laureate Michael Rosen and including comic Jenny Eclair.

Baddiel - who yesterday announced a West End run of his stand-up show My Family: Not The Sitcom – won £2,500 for the honour.

The Parent Agency, illustrated by Jim Field, is Baddiel's first children's book – and was the bestselling hardback children's debut of 2014. Released in paperback last year (Buy), it is a 'wish-fulfilment adventure' about children choosing their perfect mum and dad.

This year was the first time the Lollies, or Laugh Out Loud, awards have been presented. They were set up by children's book distributor Scholastic following the demise of the Roald Dahl Funny Book award, of which Field is a previous winner.
