Terminally ill comic lands HBO special

A dream come true...

A young comedian with incurable cancer has been given his dream – an HBO special – thanks to Ellen DeGeneres.

Friends and fellow stand-ups had already rallied round Quincy Jones to raise $50,000 to film a special before his stage-four mesothelioma claims his life.

Now the premium broadcaster has stepped up to give it a national exposure across the States.

In July, the aspiring comic was diagnosed with cancer and given a year to live. He is undergoing chemotherapy and performing when he is well enough.

The comedian had previously appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show when he spoke about his dream to film a special before he died.

The 32-year-old returned to the show yesterday, when the host revealed that she had convinced HBO to air the hour-long show.

Jones burst into delighted laughter when she broke the news, laughing: 'Are you serious?! Oh my god, that's the best surprise. Thanks you very much.'

He will shoot the special in Los Angeles on April 4 and it will air on HBO shortly afterwards.
