Comedian proposes on stage – and gets rejected
Excruciating footage has emerged of a stand-up proposing on stage – only to be rejected.
The comedian is seen asking his girlfriend in front of an audience of 150 people: 'You know, you're everything to me and I kind of wanted to tell you that I want to spend the rest of my life with you.'
However the woman looks shocked and says something to him off mic, then walks off stage, leaving him looking very awkward, muttering: 'Um, I guess I'll just do some jokes.'
He followed up with:'Did you hear the one about the comic who asked his girlfriend to marry him?'
And presciently he says: 'This is going to end up on YouTube isn't it?'
The clip has been published by Metro and the Irish Independent today, just in time for Valentines Day, with no information about where or when it happened.
However, the comic was an American satirist called Tim Young, and the clip was actually shot at the Riot Act in Washington DC in January 2012.
Footage from a different camera has been online for almost four years, which also includes a backstage shot of Young speaking into the camera saying: 'You are going to see something amazing tonight. One time only. You'll never forget it.'
What's not clear is whether the on-stage proposal was genuine, though the dejected look on Young's face certainly looks real:
