Yonderland gets a third series

And Stephen Fry joins the cast

Sky’s Yonderland is to return for a third series – with Stephen Fry joining the cast.

The departing QI host broke the news on Twitter, posting to his 12million followers: ‘Let us cast off these cumbersome robes. I’m delighted to be joining the cast of #Yonderland for Series 3 on @sky.’

And the broadcaster tweeted back: ‘That’s yonderful news, Stephen! Delighted to have you on board.’

The third series had not yet been officially announced by Sky, so no broadcast date is yet confirmed, although it is expected to be later this year.

Fry’s character is an elder called Cuddly Dick, described as ‘a charming, avuncular eccentric who loves nothing more than to spread love and kindness (as well as plenty of hugs and kisses). However, beneath this warm and affable exterior, more sinister motivations may be lurking.’ For it’s also known that the character is fresh out of prison.

Yonderland launched in 2013, and was created by the comedy team behind CBBC's Horrible Histories: Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond.

It originally launched with 1million viewers on first screening, although this fell to below 300,000 by the end of series two, which aired last summer. However it has been warmly received by critics.
