Susan Calman gets more Sisters

Radio 4 recommissions her comedy series

Susan Calman’s Radio 4 sitcom Sisters has been recommissioned for a second series.

The comic broke the news on Twitter this afternoon, saying: ‘Can’t wait to get writing.’

She stars in the Odd Couple-style show with Ashley Jensen, from Extras and Catastrophe, as siblings who share a flat. Fiona is a solicitor and Susan is her irritating younger sister in the show said to be ‘very loosely based’ on the comedian’s own relationship with her older sister.

The four episodes in series one, which aired in August and September this year, also starred Nick Helm as oddball neighbour Blake, plus Nico Tatarowicz, Ellie White and Cariad Lloyd.

When producers Hat Trick first announced the series, Calman said: ‘Sisters is a show that’s funny, warm and stuffed full of great characters. And it’s two leads are women. Which is always positive in my book!’

Emma Kennedy, creator of the semi-autobiographical BBC One sitcom The Kennedys, was quick to congratulate Calman on the combating via Twitter, saying: ‘This is SUPER news.’
