Villainous role in Blazing Saddles-inspired cartoon

Ricky Gervais is to voice a cat warlord in a new family comedy cartoon.

The Office creator has joined the star-studded cast of Blazing Samurai, an animated film inspired by Mel Brooks’ 1974 hit Blazing Saddles.

Arrested Development’s Michael Cera plays the canine hero, Hank, who must combat Gervais’s villain, the ‘Fursace’-clad Ika Chu, who is hell-bent on ridding the town of all its dogs.

The cast also features Brooks, Samuel L. Jackson, George Takei, Gabriel Iglesias, Michelle Yeoh and Mel B.

It was also recently announced that Gervais would be hosting the 73rd Golden Globe Awards on January 10.
