BBC: We want more W1As

...and Inside No 9s, Cradle To Graves and Boy Meets Girls

The BBC will commission a third series of W1A, the satire about itself, just as soon as writer John Morton is ready.

It had been rumoured that the comedy could prove too sensitive to air during negotiations with the government over the corporation’s Charter renewal.

But BBC Two controller Kim Shillinglaw knocked back those fears and said she was ready to order more episodes.

’It’s all about the writer,’ she told the Radio Times. ‘When John’s ready we will be ready.’

She also said that securing the time from stars such as Hugh Bonneville and Jessica Hynes was proving difficult, and added: ‘It’s a gorgeous series, it’s very funny, it’s really sharp, it’s both specific and universal.’

Shillinglaw added that she was also expecting further series from Inside Number 9, Cradle to Grave and Boy Meets Girl, but could not confirm a formal commission for any of them.
