Two club sets ahead of SNL appearance

Tracy Morgan has returned to stand-up, 16 months after the car crash that almost claimed his life.

He performed two sets in New York last night, at the Comedy Cellar and The Stand. The appearances come in preparation for his return to TV this weekend when he'll be hosting Saturday Night Live.

Morgan, 46, tweeted a picture of himself onstage at the Comedy Cellar, standing unaided. It had been thought he might never be able to walk unassisted again after the accident in June 2014, that claimed the life of fellow comedian James 'Jimmy Mack' McNair.

And The Stand club tweeted that it was 'an honor' to have the comic back on their stage.

Audiences at both clubs were said to be small but very appreciative – and under strict instructions not to record Moragn's performances.

In the audience at the Comedy Cellar, where he was supporting his 30 Rock co-star Judah Friedlander, was Vanessa Golembewski, who blogged that 'Morgan made jokes about his speech therapy. At one point during his brief set, he even stopped to cough for a minute. "That's because of the accident," he joked, followed it up by suggesting that it might also be from smoking too much weed.'

Last month Morgan made an emotional appearance at the Emmy Awards and he has just been filming scenes for his new movie Fist Fight.
