On how she deals with depression

Susan Calman is writing a book about how she copes with depression.

The book, currently titled Cheer Up Love: Further Adventures Of The Crab of Hate, will be her first, and is set to be released by publishers Two Roads in May next year.

Calman, whose first sitcom Sisters is currently airing on Radio 4, said: ‘Nothing makes me happier than talking about depression and hopefully people will enjoy reading my particular brand of advice on the subject.

‘Packed with stories, humour and a bit of the serious stuff, I will literally write the book on how it feels to be told “Cheer up, Love”. I can’t wait to get started.’

Two Roads says the book will be ‘a survival handbook on how to think positively when you’re the world’s most negative person’ – adding that it explores how News Quiz regular Calman discovered ‘how excellent gloomy people actually are’.

Publisher Lisa Highton told trade magazine The Bookseller: ‘We’re all huge fans of Susan Calman and we’re over the moon to be doing her book – it’s a serious subject but handled with Susan’s wit and warmth it might well cheer many people up.’
