Comics pen a script about a woman seeking her real dad

Sharon Horgan and Aisling Bea are working together on a comedy about a woman searching for her real father.

Channel 4 has commissioned the script, as yet untitled, which is being developed by Horgan’s production company Merman.

The Irish pair previously worked together in acting roles on Dead Boss, the BBC Three prison-based sitcom Horgan co-wrote with Holly Walsh.

Details of the idea are still under wraps while the script is being written, but Bea, who is currently performing at the Edinburgh Fringe, told Chortle: ‘Myself and Sharon met for the first time filming the pilot for Dead Boss and we fell deep in love.

‘We have been working together for a few years on bits and pieces and when she and Clelia Mountford set up their own production company, Merman, we started chatting ideas and brainstorming things we could make together.

‘We hope to use this as a way of making the most of our similar backgrounds. It is still early days, but it is exciting to get the script commission.’

A Channel 4 spokesman said: ‘We can confirm we have commissioned a comedy script from Aisling Bea about a woman searching for her real father. The script was co-created with Sharon Horgan through Merman.’
