Reece Shearsmith joins Dr Who

...as does comic Bethany Black

Reece Shearsmith is making a guest appearance in Doctor Who, written by his League Of Gentlemen co-star Mark Gatiss.

As usual, his role in what’s described as a ‘very singular’ episode is being kept under wraps.

But he said: ‘I am absolutely thrilled to be filming Doctor Who as Mark Gatiss has written a fantastic role for me in a very scary episode.

‘It has been so exciting to be part of a very singular episode – which, I can say with authority will be unlike any previous episode of Doctor Who. It’s a joy to play a part in the show – certainly a badge of honour.’

Gatiss said: ‘I’m very excited about this particular story. It’s been brewing in the dark recesses of my mind for a while now.’

Also appearing in the new series is stand-up Bethany Black, who recently made her acting debut in Channel 4’s Cucumber and Banana, as well as comedy stars Rufus Hound, Rebecca Front and Ingrid Oliver, of the Watson And Oliver double act.

Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman return to BBC One for the ninth series of Doctor Who on September 19.

Shearsmith has previously played Patrick Troughton in a docu-drama about the conception and making of Doctor Who, An Adventure In Space And Time,

Here he is talking a little about his role:
