Car Share's big audience share

Ratings joy for Peter Kay; grief for ITV

The BBC’s decision to premiere Peter Kay’s Car Share on iPlayer before its TV broadcast seems to have done it no harm in the ratings.

Its opening episode attracted a very healthy 5.68million viewers to BBC One at 9.30pm last night – 27 per cent of the available audience.

However it was bleaker news for ITV’s comedy block.

Topical puppet show Newzoids was seen by 1.77 million at 9pm and The Delivery Man, which followed at 9.30pm, was down to just 1.1million – a 5.2 per cent audience share.

Both of the overnight figures are around half what the shows launched with two weeks ago.

Meanwhile on BBC Two, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith’s Inside No. 9 averaged 680,000 viewers at 10pm.It was the last in the series which started with 1.1million viewers two weeks ago.
