Up The Women goes down

No third series for suffragette sitcom

Jessica Hynes' suffragette sitcom Up The Women has been dropped after two series.

The BBC says its decision is to make way for new comedy shows.

A spokesman said: ‘After two great series, sadly there won't be any more Up The Women on BBC Two as the channel looks to bring new comedy shows through.

‘Huge thanks to the incredibly talented Jessica Hynes, and all involved in the making of the show.’

As well as creating the show, Hynes starred as Margaret, leader of the Banbury Intricate Craft Circle, alongside Rebecca Front, Vicki Pepperdine, Adrian Scarborough, Emma Pierson and Judy Parfitt.

Up the Women began as a series of three episodes on BBC Four in 2013, before moving to BBC Two for its second series of six episodes in January this year.

The second series started with 1.5million viewers, but lost almost half of them by the second episode, which was sen by 870,000.
