Glasgow show cancelled amid protests

Dapper Laughs attempts to stage a comeback have been derailed after protests cancelled another gig.

Daniel O’Reilly’s alter-ego had been scheduled to play the Campus bar in Glasgow on April 2.

But more than 1,000 people signed a petition, which persuaded the bar - which bills itself as ‘Glasgow’s first frat house’ – to pull the gig,

The petition said ‘his tired jokes dehumanise women and trivialise rape’, and was similar to the one that caused the cancellation of his planned live tour before Christmas.

In November, O’Reilly made a high-profile appearance on Newsnight, when he said he was killing off the character in reaction to the backlash he was getting after finding a bigger profile from his ITV2 show On The Pull

But he released a comeback video on Christmas Day – and this week he vowed to release a stand-up show called Res’Erection on DVD. That show will be recorded at the Clapham Grand on April 10, protests permitting, for which tickets are £25.

He also posted: ‘The level in which me [sic] media have gone to push the idea I promote rape is causing more of an issues [sic] then my comedy taken out of context.’
