Shortlisted in the category this year are Please Like Me, the Australian sitcom featuring Josh Thomas; South Africa's Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola; The Mayor´s Wife from Brazil and Wat Als? (What If?) from Belgium. Last year the title was won by Sky 1's Moone Boy.

THE DATE of this year's British Comedy Award has been set as December 16. The show will again be hosted by Jonathan Ross from the Fountain Studios in Wembley. Public tickets are available, priced £60 plus £3 fees, which includes some drinks and a goodie bag. Buy.

THE 32-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the attempted theft of the Eric Morecambe statue on Saturday has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act, local Morecambe newspaper The Visitor reports this morning.

JASON MANFORD is launching a branch of his comedy nights in Preston, to step into the gap left by the closure of the town's permanent Frog and Bucket venue. The club which bears his name will launch in the Rift and Co, nightspot – while the Frog will continue as a monthly club in the Guild Hall.
