Bill Bailey revives Name That Tune

Pilot recorded for ITV

Bill Bailey is set to host a revival of Name That Tune, after chairing a pilot episode for ITV last night.

The quiz show – in which contestants have to identify a song from as few notes as possible – has not been made for 16 years.

One audience member at the ITV London Studios tweeted last night: ‘Can totally understand Bill Bailey's choice as host - good improvisor and can play half the tunes himself.’

The revived format incorporates other quirky humour, such as round where tunes are played on unusual instruments – in the pilot these were all made from vegetables.

It is the latest entertainment show that ITV has its eyes on bringing back. following Celebrity Squares, Catchphrase and Surprise Surprise. Harry Hill is also tipped to be hosting a resurrected Stars In Their Eyes.

Name That Tune was originally an American format, which first aired in the UK from 1956 to 1994. It was first revived in 1976 with Tom O’Connor at the helm, then Lionel Blair took over from 1983 until 1988. Jools Holland then presented a short-lived version on Channel 5 in 1997 and 1998.
