If women ruled the world...

New sitcom from Father Ted's Arthur Mathews

Father Ted writer Arthur Mathews has created a new sitcom – set in an alternative Britain ruled by women.

Men About The House, which is being piloted for Radio 4, is set in a female dominated House of Commons that oversees a matriarchal society. The BBC says the show ‘explores what it would be like if the roles of men and women... were reversed.’

The corporation adds: ‘Would the world be a better place? Would we have nine foot Amazon ladies with lovely hair, sitting on horses? We won't know for sure until the revolution, so for now we're guessing that this is what Britain would be like if men were depicted semi-naked on page three of The Sun and women did very little of the tidying up.’

The concept was previously explored by the Two Ronnies in their 1980 Worm That Turned serial, pictured. Set in a dystopian future – 2012 – their version had women in boots and hot pants, led by Diana Dors, oppressing men who wore frocks.

The pilot of Men About The House is to be recorded in front of a studio audience in London later this month. See our free tickets page to be among them.
