Mrs Brown's Boys tops Xmas ratings

9.4million watch sitcom special

Mrs Brown’s Boys has won the Christmas Day ratings, with 9.4million viewers.

That was more than a million ahead of the number who saw the Doctor Who episode, which culminated in Matt Smith regenerating into Peter Capaldi and 1.5million more than those who saw Coronation Street.

And 7.3million people saw Rufus Hound be crowned dancefloor king on the one-off festive edition of Strictly Come Dancing.

However, no other comedy show made the December 25 top ten – seven of which were BBC One shows.

Positions may change once recorded viewing is added to Barb’s overnight figures. Two years ago Downton Abbey was rated fourth in the overnight ratings but eventually rose to first when the final figures were released.
