THE Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Girls, Modern Family and Parks & Recreation have been shortlisted for best comedy at the Golden Globes. Up for best actress are: Zooey Deschanel (New Girl), 
Lena Dunham (Girls), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) Amy Poehler (Parks & Recreation). And best actor: Jason Bateman (Arrested Development), Don Cheadle (House of Lies), Michael J. Fox (The Michael J. Fox Show), Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine).

STAND-UP Bethany Black has said she had ‘a little cry’ at people’s generosity after a fundraising campaign was set up to replace her laptop and Christmas presents she had bought, which were stolen in a burglary at her Manchester home last night. More than £1,100 has been raised in a few hours – more than the £1,000 target.

THE ENGLISH Comedian Of The Year competition is being revived for 2014. A spin-off from the Scottish Comedian Of The Year Competition that promoter Alan Anderson has run for eight years, the title comes with a £1,500 prize and a trip to the Adelaide Fringe. Anderson insists the contest is not a new act competition – however the unpaid heats are unlikely to appeal to the more seasoned pros. The contest previously ran in 2009, when Matthew Osborn took the title.

DAVID WALLIAMS has won the children's book category at the National Book Awards for Demon Dentist.

JOSIE LONG is to star in another short film, Rain on Film, in which she plays a cinema-obsessed young woman (called Josie) who attempts to direct her own real-life romance as if it were movie. Here directors Phil Drinkwater and Tim Woodall talk about it:
