Could he be heading for a starring role?

Eddie Izzard has signed a deal with NBC that could lead to his own American TV series.

The comic has signed a one-year talent-holding deal, which typically ties him to the network while they seek a starring vehicle.

According to Variety, Izzard will receive an executive producer credit on a series if he is cast as the lead.

The comic has already appeared in NBC’s Hannibal as Dr. Abel Gideon, and has said he will be returning to the role in in the forthcoming second series. It is the latest in a string of US TV acting jobs, although none has yet proved a breakout role.

Izzard has just announced his first stand-up shows in German, and plans to run for mayor of London in 2020.
