Ross Noble ♥ Harold Bishop

Comic's new Australian TV role

Ross Noble is to play the gay lover of the actor who played Harold Bishop on Neighbours.

The comic makes a rare acting appearing as part of the ensemble cast of new Australian comedy series It’s A Date.

And a trailer for the show released last night contains a scene showing the stand-up’s character on a Blind Date with a man played by soap icon Ian Smith.

Noble’s character tells him: ‘You promised me Antonio Banderas, what do I get? Fucking Santa.’

In an interview earlier this year, Noble said he had come up with the storyline: ‘A friend of mine is writing and directing and I said I had this idea, basically me and Harold from Neighbours are lovers. He went, “Brilliant!”’

The eight-part ABC1 comedy, which airs down under from August 15, boasts an impressive range of Australian comedy stars including Denise Scott, Lawrence Mooney Peter Hellier, Luke McGregor, Steve Gates, Ronny Chieng, Kate McLennan and Nazeem Hussain.

Charting a series of often ill-fated dates, the show has been created by comedian Peter Helliar, who has recruited several comics, including some of the cast, to the writing team.

At an event to launch the show, ABC’s director of television Richard Finlayson described the show as ‘fucking funny’.

Noble is currently filming Ross Noble Freewheeling for digital channel Dave, in which he tours the country getting advice on where to go and what to see from Twitter.
