THE BBC aired 1,625 hours of comedy across its four TV channels last year, its annual report has revealed – or about 4.5hrs a day. BBC Three provided the lion’s share of the output, with 1,149 hours. The report did not break down the figures into original programming versus repeats or imports.

EDINBURGH’s Stand Comedy Club is staging a fundraiser for the ‘rival’ PBH Free Fringe tonight. The club says: ‘Whereas some of the bigger Fringe venues are perceived to have treated the Free Fringe as a threat, The Stand have opted for a supportive and symbiotic relationship that hopefully can foster the intended positive creative energy at the Edinburgh Fringe.’

HARRY’S Nuts – the peanuts promoted by Harry Hill – are to be axed. Fairtrade company Liberation has confirmed that it is dropping the packets to concentrate on ‘two new premium snacking products’, although Hill will still be involved with the company. And a Fairtrade peanut butter bearing Hill’s name will continue to be made.

DAVID WALLIAMS has donated £1,000 to the charity fund set up in memory of Susan Taylor, who died while swimming the Channel. She had been partly inspired to take on the challenge following the Little Britain star's 2006 Comic Relief swim Walliams also urged fans to donate here, too.
