'Shitty airline' forces Chris Addison to cancel gig

Chris Addison has had to cancel his gig in Lichfield tonight – after being stranded in America by a ‘shitty airline’.

The comic has been in New York for the past two days rehearsing with the cast of Armando Iannucci’s political comedy Veep, an episode of which he is directing.

However, he got delayed on his return and can’t now make it back in for the sold-out gig at the Garrick Theatre

Although he did not name the airline, he told fans in a statement: ‘I'm furious with them and gutted - I'd been really looking forward to this show.

‘I'm going to do my best to put in a replacement gig as soon as possible and I will let you know the moment that gets sorted.

‘I can only apologise for this. It really is beyond my control. I'm sitting in an airport typing this in the same clothes I've been wearing for the past 36 hours - my bag is in transit elsewhere it seems - and I should be in the UK by now getting ready for tonight.

‘So sorry, chaps. I will make this right, as they say in the films.’

Addison later tweeted: ‘Ha! Small consolations: I just saw a guy in the airport watching In The Loo' on his iPad. Went up to him and said it was a good film. Fun.’
