SKY ATLANTIC has brought the rights to air Stephen Merchant’s new HBO sitcom Hello Ladies. The station has announced that it will air both that show and the second series of Armando Iannucci’s Veep this autumn.

JASPER CARROTT and Tom O’Connor were among 350 people paying tribute to Black Country comedian Lee Wilson at his funeral this week. The comic, who became a regular on the cruise ships and after-dinner circuit after appearing on New Faces in 1976, died earlier this month at the age of 74 from pancreatic cancer. Carrott said: ‘The man did not have a negative thought in his body.’

MTV has confirmed the cancellation of Bo Burnham’s sitcom Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous. The company said they were ‘huge fans’ of the comedian, but added: ‘After careful consideration of many factors, we have ultimately decided not to move forward with an additional season of the series. We wish Bo, the cast and the entire production crew the very best.’

MICHAEL PALIN is to receive Canada's highest medal in geography, The Royal Canadian Geographical Society's Gold Medal, in Toronto today for his ‘contribution to geographical literacy’.

AMERICAN stand-up Jim Gaffigan has signed a deal for a second book about food. The contract with Crown Archetype follows the success of his first collection of autobiographical stories, Dad Is Fat, which was released last month and has made No4 in the New York Times bestseller list. ‘Working with Crown was a delight,’ Gaffigan said. ‘I haven’t been hungry in ten years.’ The untitled book is out next year.
