Carroll acts to shut down fake pages

Britain’s Got Talent comic Jack Carroll is urging fans to beware of bogus Facebook pages set up in his name

The teenager has managed to shut down one fake page after it ran scam competitions to con people out of their bank details.

Facebook acted to axe it after Carroll urged his 110,000 Twitter followers to report it – but fans are being taken in by other pages.

A ‘Jack Carroll’ page still online and boasting more than 350,000 ‘likes’ contains many comments that suggest users believe it to be the comedian’s genuine page, thanks to updates using his lines, such as’ Maybe it's time to pursue a career as a gymnast?’

But whoever is behind the page also writes in the third person, and states in the profile that it’s a fan page – although few people seem to have noticed that when commenting.

And Carroll, who has cerebral palsy, said this was a scam to build up followers. He wrote on Twitter: ‘To those saying it is just a fanpage... It isn't. They wait, then pretend to be me, then start selling things. It's a pattern.’

Another Facebook page described as ‘official’ has 60,000 likes and urges people to follow a page full of 'ROFL memes'.
