Spy shown the d'Or

International award for Sky's axed comedy

Sky’s family comedy Spy has been named best sitcom at the prestigious Rose D’Or international TV awards.

The show – which has been cancelled after two series – saw off competition from Twenty Twelve and The Thick Of It in the all-British shortlist.

However, the UK lost out in the separate comedy category, where Belgium’s What If? saw off fellow nominees Cardinal Burns and The Revolution Will Be Televised.

Spy's writer Simeon Goulden used the victory to appeal for another broadcaster to pick up the show, tweeting: 'The award-wining Sky comedy just picked up a Golden Rose. It's sadly a posthumous award. Unless someone wants to revive us!'

Last year, Channel 4’s Friday Night Dinner won the sitcom award and Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror took best comedy.

The awards were given out in Brussels last night – the first time in their 52-year history that the ceremony has not been held in Switzerland.
