C4 cooks up more Toast

Series order for Matt Berry comedy

Channel 4 has picked up Matt Berry’s Toast Of London for a full series.

The comedy, in which the IT Crowd star played the eccentric and perpetually humiliated actor Steven Toast, was piloted as part of the station’s Funny Fortnight season last August.

Now it has become the third show from that breeding ground to be picked up for a full run, following Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong’s Bad Sugar and hidden camera show I'm Spazticus.

In February, Channel 4 ordered more scripts from Berry and co-writer Arthur Mathews, and now it has given the green light to six new episodes. They will be filmed next month and broadcast later this year.

Channel 4's comedy commissioning editor Rachel Springett said the show was ‘an exciting and tantalising project’.
