Learn guitar with David Brent

Ricky Gervais's next project

Ricky Gervais has revealed details of his new David Brent YouTube project.

The Office character will be hosting a series of online ‘teach yourself guitar’ tutorials, each featuring one of his own compositions.

These will be a mix of new tracks and songs from the TV series, such as his Bowie-inspired The Spaceman. There are said to be enough new composition to fill an album – raising the prospect that such a release will be his next project.

In the videos, Brent will also talk about the inspiration behind the songs, and tell more about his life in a paper supplier.

The news comes as Gervais said he is acing The Ricky Gervais Show of animations based on his podcasts with Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington.

Writing in The Sun, he said: ‘I think we used all the best bits and I wouldn’t want the quality to go down. I was thinking of recording brand new audio at one time but then I realised that it wouldn’t be the same.’

Gervais revealed earlier this year that he was resurrecting Brent for the internet, as he released new material for Comic Relief. The video Equality Street, made with comic-rapper Doc Brown, has attracted more than 3.2million viewers on Gervais’s YouTube channel.
