The Trip to return

Brydon confirms new series to be shot in Italy

Rob Brydon has confirmed that a second series of The Trip is in the pipeline – to be filmed in Italy.

He verified long-term rumours of a second series, in which he and Steve Coogan play fictionalised versions of themselves on a gastronomic tour, via Twitter.

In response to a fan’s question about whether the show would be returning he said: ‘Yes. Very soon. Italy...’

He would not be drawn on the precise setting for the new series, but said they would shoot in ‘many and varied locations’.

Brydon also confirmed that director Michael Winterbottom – fresh from working with Coogan on the newly-released movie The Look Of Love – was ‘on board and in charge’.

Two years ago, co-producer Andrew Eaton let slip during a talk at the Latitude Festival that a new six-part series was being planned, but nothing more has been heard of the idea since.

The Trip first aired on BBC Two in November 2010. It started with 2million viewers, but the audience fell to below 1million by the end of the six-part run. However, the show was highly appreciated by those who did watch it.
