Twitter hosts a comedy festival

Mel Brooks in #comedyfest

Stars including Mel Brooks, Judd Apatow and Amy Schumer are to take part in a five-day comedy festival, which will take place almost entirely on Twitter.

America’s Comedy Central is hosting the event, with comics tweeting gags and posting six-second videos on the Twitter app Vine.

Only one event will take place in front of a live audience: a panel discussion from Los Angeles in which Apatow an Carl Reiner will try to convince Brooks to join Twitter..

Few other events have been revealed, but stand-up Steve Agee will host a ‘Vine Dining’ party as part of the festival. The events will be flagged with the hashtag #comedyfest.

It is part of an increasing move online for Comedy Central, which is also working a CC:Standup app that will offer free, ad-supported videos of stand-up routines.
