Book deal for Mrs Brown

Spin-off out this autumn

Mrs Brown’s Boys has dominated the stage, TV and DVD sales... and now it’s to stage an assault on the book bestseller list, too.

Creator Brendan O’Carroll has signed a publishing deal for his book Mrs Brown’s Family Handbook, an illustrated hardback with comic tips on running a household.

To be published by Penguin imprint Michael Joseph this autumn, the book is the first official publishing spin-off from the sitcom that has shifted more than 3million DVDs.

O’Carroll had previously written a trilogy of novels based around the character, which were published before its TV success.

Michael Joseph’s editorial director Daniel Bunyard told The Bookseller: ‘It's a dream come true to work with Brendan O'Carroll. He is a creative genius, and it will be a privilege for us to offer a home to him as an author.

'Mrs. Brown's Boys' reaches an enormous audience of passionate and devoted fans – it will be an exciting challenge to develop books for them that carry the same fun and warmth as the show.’

O’Carroll is also set to take the hit Mrs Brown stage show to Australia next year, he announced this week. Dates and cities have not yet been announced, but fans are being invited to sign up for updates on Facebook.
