Arrested Development: The wait ends

New Netflix episodes out on May 26

Netflix has announced a launch date for the new series of Arrested Development: May 26.

Every episode will be made available on demand at the same time around the world – 8.01am UK time. Netflix used the same release strategy for its recent political thriller hit House Of Cards, which proved a great success.

It has also been reported that the series will contain one more episode than expected. Ten were initially announced, with an increase to 14 confirmed in January. But now Hollywood website Deadline reports that the number has risen to 15.

Netflix executive Ted Sarandos, said: ‘Arrested Development is now widely viewed as one of the top TV comedies of all time and [creator] Mitch Huritz is bringing it to Netflix in a brand new way, crafted for the on-demand generation that has come to discover the show in the years since it last appeared on TV. The highly anticipated return of this show is sure to make history all over again.’

Hurwitz added: ‘Ted said that? Wow. Well don’t print this obviously, but he’s going to be immensely disappointed.’

He added: ‘In truth we are doing something very ambitious that can only be done with Netflix as partners and on their platform. Finally my simple wish for the show is coming true: that it be broadcast every second around the clock to every television, computer or mobile device in existence.’

Each episode on the new series – the first in seven years – will revolve around a different character’s point of view. Key cast members including Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett and David Cross are all reprising their roles.
