Steve Coogan set for US TV series?

Lined up for legal drama-ha

Steve Coogan is reportedly set to star in a new American TV drama, as a troubled low-rent lawyer.

In the series, called Doubt, he would play a former cop turned ‘cunning but charming’ attorney, trying to win back his ex-wife as he fights cases.

The series has been created by ex-lawyer David Shore, who has a track record in making a prime-time star out of a British comedian, having cast Hugh Laurie in his previous show, House.

According to Hollywood website Deadline, the Alan Partridge star initially had no interest in becoming an American TV star, but responded favourably to a pilot script. Indeed, in one scene in his 2010 series The Trip, the autobiographical Steve Coogan character is clearly disturbed by the long-term commitment such a role would demand.

Doubt is being developed for the ABC network by Sony TV.
