'Hip-hop is words, right?'

Jerry Seinfeld to release a rap album

Jerry Seinfeld is to make a hip-hop album.

He is collaborating with the rapper Wale on the project, and the pair have already laid down tracks in a Philadelphia recording studio.

It is not the first time Wale has worked with the comic... but it’s the first time Seinfeld has known about it.

In 2008, the rapper released  The Mixtape About Nothing, a concept album inspired by Seinfeld’s classic sitcom that used some lines from the show. The comic said he hadn’t heard the album – but that Wale was his wife’s favourite hip-hop artists, so he agreed to the collaboration.

In a video released to explain the project, Seinfeld told Wale collaborator DJ Omega: ‘Wale wanted me to do something with him and I didn't understand it, but he did, and I kinda liked the guy, I dug the guy, I listened to his music, I liked his music, so I said “All right, I'll do it,” even though I didn't know what I was going to do.

‘Hip-hop is words, right? I do words, why don’t you take my words and do something with it... I don’t know how to do it, but I just thought “take the words”.’
