Mark Watson to do a new 25-hour show

Return to format for Comic Relief

Mark Watson is to perform another of his marathon live shows... this time in aid of Comic Relief.

The stand-up had vowed to end the stunts with his 2009 Last Ever 24 Hour Show, the fifth in a series that peaked with a 36-hour effort.

But after being approached by Comic Relief he agreed to return to the idea for a 25-hour version to mark the charity’s 25th anniversary.

The show will take place at the Pleasance in London, running from 11pm on Thursday February 28 to midnight on March 1.

Watson announced the show on his blog, in which he revealed he was reluctantly returning to the ‘massive, overambitious, stupid, show’ format because ‘You can’t really turn Comic Relief down... [and] you can see it from my position: I’d be pretty fucking furious if someone else did it. So I’m doing it.

‘25 hours. Jesus. I’m getting too old for this.’

Watson also appealed to fans who would be willing to undertake activities for the duration, to help generate publicity for the cause:

‘The idea of this is not only to raise money by being sponsored to do the show and various things during the show, etc, but also to get people around the country doing their own 25-hour challenges,’ he added.

‘Sponsored silence, sponsored eating bread, sponsored shouting at strangers, unicycling, fudge-making, fact-learning, football-juggling: whatever. Outlandish/difficult/newsworthy is good, but it could equally be something very small, yet difficult for you.’
