Radio 4 goes to Hal

Cruttenden lands his own series

Hal Cruttenden has been commissioned to make a four-part sitcom for Radio 4.

The show, titled Hal, will explore the stand-up’s life as a rudderless house husband trying to find a purpose.

He will be given advice by a number of characters each week, including the ghost of his father, who is continually upbeat, but only seems to make Hal’s situation worse.

Cruttenden said: ‘I’m delighted to get this chance to prove to the nation that I’m a British Seinfeld with slightly camper voice.’

The show will be written next year – but not go out until 2014.

A Radio 4 spokesman added: ‘We’re delighted to be able to commission this. We are placing a run of four programmes on Sunday evenings where we think it will bring something distinct to the schedule.’

Earlier this year, Cruttenden signed a DVD deal with Channel 4.

His TV appearances include Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and the Royal Variety Performance – and he will be on the edition of Live At The Apollo that airs on BBC One on January 4.
