Another day, another comedy video contest

30-second clip could net you £5k

Another new competition for comedy film-makers has been launched... just hours after the last one.

Organisers of Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival are offering a £5,000 first prize to their comedy shorts competition, as chosen by judges.

Plus there will be a £2,500 prize for the ‘people’s choice’ clip which gets the most hits.

The competition is revealed the day after TV comedy producers Hat Trick opened entries in their £3,000 Short and Funnies competition for film-makers – with the rule they must include a rabbit somewhere in their submission in homage to the company logo. Details

But the Leicester competition makes fewer demands, with the only stipulation being that the clip must be original, between 30 and 60 seconds long and be ‘clean’.

They say: ‘It can be any type of comedy: slapstick, silent, a monologue, a sketch, dance, mime, anything you like!

‘We don’t need high production values, you can film it on your smartphone, because the only quality that matters is the quality of the joke.’

The closing date for entries is midnight on January 27, and the judging panel comprises Richard Herring, Dave’s head Steve North, comedy festival boss Geoff Rowe, Inbetweeners co-creator Iain Morris and Steve Bennett of Chortle.
