Addison's ads 'most memorable'

Direct Line campaign tops poll

Chris Addison and Alexander Armstrong might have been dropped from their Direct Line adverts – but they were the most effective on TV this year.

They have topped a league table of the most memorable campaigns of 2012, coming joint first with the Virgin Media ads starring Usain Bolt.

Both were recalled by 79 per cent of people, according to the Marketing magazine survey.

When the insurance company dropped the Addison and Armstrong sketches earlier this year in favour of ‘real people’, it said: ‘There has been a shift in what consumers want.’

The adverts, in which Addison played a company rep and Armstrong a series of difficult customers, were directed by Father Ted and IT Crowd creator Graham Linehan.
